Margaret River
Martial Arts
Unit 4, 19 Auger Way, Margaret River
Our aim...
The aim of MRMA has always been to equip kids with skills to handle an uncertain future. To do this they need to confront difficulty in training and learn to make decisions under pressure. As they develop these critical skills they will inevitably rise to positions of leadership in their school and local community. Our program creates that confidence.
MRMA students study techniques from a variety of disciplines. This keeps the variety in training and gives students the ability to respond to situations.
Techniques come from :
-
Karate
-
Muay Thai boxing
-
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
-
Mixed Martial Arts
Four Pillars Of Our Teaching...
The teaching curriculum for our students is divided into 4 areas that define our martial arts:
-
Reality
-
Creativity
-
Fortitude
-
Compassion
Reality
The majority of techniques that students are taught are defences against attacks that happen in a real attack.
These attacks, pushing and punching, comprise 90% of the aggression that your child will have to deal with. Hence, our focus is on that.
Do we learn other techniques that you would see in movies and tournaments? Yes.
Do we stress an ability to master those? No.
We stress ability to deal with real confrontation and make good decisions under stress.
Creativity
Our teaching is based on the Montessori Teaching method. This entails that students learn the basic techniques but then are shown how to develop their own gameplan when things don't go according to plan. That's life isn't it.
Fortitude
Initially, we show how to move in detail so a feeling of confidence and "I can do it" results. After a while, all students know that they have to keep trying without direct help from an instructor. They will have to work it out themself as a caring adult will not always be there to sort it out for them. Again, that's life.
Compassion
This is a hard one as we all get up tight and angry and want to lash out. However, students are taught to help smaller students and those that aren't as confident. In this way, they become compassionate towards others less fortunate.
Also, all members and parents know that a portion of fees go towards the sponsorship of children in the World Vision Program. The more members we join, the more kids we sponsor.
