My son Rhonan is really benefiting from his time spent with Sean and Brigitte's martial arts class. He is learning self defense and is getting a great full body work out. These are a small benefits from his time there as the greater benefits are that he is learning very effective life skills, discipline, respect, group work as well as leadership development. Sean's use of older kids coaching and mentoring the younger kids really helps sets our community up with kids with great values and morals. I don't see Rhonan's time in his class as a nice thing for him to do but an essential part of growing into a good adult. Thank you guys!
A great story that demonstrates the long-standing impact of good martial arts instruction.
Mark* trained with me as a kid for about eight years. Later, he drifted off into university then got a job as a financial planner in a prestigious company in Perth. Shortly after establishing himself in the company, he surprised his parents by resigning.
His reason? He felt the companies ethics weren’t sound. (They were pressuring their clients to buy products that were better for them financially than for the client)
His parents said this ethical stand of his sparked back to a talk I had with him when he failed a grading 10 years before. At the time, even though he was feeling terrible, I gave him the opportunity to take the ethical highground and turn up to the grading and support his fellow students who had passed. He did this.
Three months later he came back and re-attempted his grading and passed.
Ethics and morals. Hard to swallow, easy to digest.
