What We Do:

Our classes teach the correct way to defend yourself if attacked. It's not a sport although we explain the rules of MMA and BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). Our training involves defence against being punched, thrown on the ground and seriously harmed.

Each student is shown how each technique works so it can be used to subdue an attacker.

It is always challenging, fun and hard work.

Where we train:

Unit 4, 19 Auger Way, Margaret River

When we train:

Monday and Wednesday at 7.00pm

How to book in:

Call Brigitte on 0413 137 983. She will answer your questions and book you and your teenager in with Mr Allen to explain the basics of our classes, what to expect and ... our code of conduct.

What then?

After you learn the basics in a one on one session with Mr Allen, you do your first class. The MMA group is not a large class. There is always a new technique to learn every lesson and time for free wrestling - an opportunity to try your moves against an opponent. It's safe, and you don't have to do anything you don't want to, but the test is what makes the training worthwhile. It's where the frustration lies ... which is where the reward lies.

Life is like that. You have to give it a go before you get the reward.

A note to parents:

Teaching MMA - Mixed Martial Arts - a full contact caged combat 'sport' to a teenager. Surely that can't be a good thing.

Good point.

Well, kids are saturated with video footage of UFC fights, knockouts in streetfights, violent video games and most importantly, the school-yard hype that comes with all these things.

The truth is that reality is far from what is portrayed in the media.

MMA training is hard work. It involves mastering technique, taking care of your partner and understanding how the human body can be used to avoid harm. It always involves an ability to control your emotions when under stress.

And it builds an awareness of our limitations in a way that makes us think before we act.

Great skills for life.
