Technical stuff......

Basic Techniques

This is a great chance to share your skills with students. It is about teaching techniques and how to apply them.

How to tie a belt

Keep an eye on students, make sure their belts are always tied on and help them if they don't know how to tie it properly.

Identifying Left Handers

Be aware of students that are left handers, as it will be confusing for them to know their stances and which hand punches first. Help them with tips on remembering their techniques for example front leg forward in fighting stance and same side punch is first.

Body Posture

This is a tough one sometimes. We all have our way of standing and holding our body!

But to be professional and show people you care about them, holding your body upright and strong shows you are attentive. Using your facial expressions to show care and alertness tells parents and students you are committed their learning and care.

Setting Up Equipment

Try to arrive to class a little earlier and asked the instructor what equipment will be needed for the class.

Set it up in a neat and orderly fashion.

Teaching Students When Paired

When you are paired with a student, it's a good time to correct their technique (don't forget PCP) but it's also a great opportunity to give them some tips on defending and attacking, especially during wrestling..

Classroom Safety

It is really important to check around the room, to make sure students do not hurt themselves. Using kick shields is a good way to ensure students don't bang into things that maybe around the maths.

Another safety rule is the "blood rule". Any student that bleeds must be taken off the mat and the mat cleaned immediately.
