First The Basics...
Holding Focus Mitts
When holding focus mitts for your student, make sure it is at the right height level; eg: the mitts should be around their nose level. Each mitt should be centred, as if they are punching your face.
Ensure you respond to their punch with appropriate 'push back' pressure and most of all make sure they are punching with all 4 knuckles.
Sparring Instruction
This video shows how you should spar with a beginner and teach them basic stances and punches.
Here is a video of some of the courses
Sean Allen has done in the past.
Learning names
Learning the names of students in the class, makes it easier for you to bond with them and it makes the students feel valued. We all like to be made to feel special - it helps us through the hard times.
P.C.P.
The way we correct a student when they make a mistake is by complimenting them first. We praise them by picking something they are doing well, then we correct the mistake and finally when they perform well, we praise them again.
PCP. All in 10 seconds or less.
In this video, Sean Allen gives an overview of the basic content in the Martial Arts Instructor Training Program.
10 names, PCP, 3 times rule and an intro to Mirroring and Matching
Your place during class instructions.
When a technique is being explained, you need to be concentrating on the instructions but also set an example to the students on listening and being disciplined.
Safety Distance
When students pair up, we ensure they are far enough away from any hazards including others students.
Loud Voice
When speaking to students; speaking with a clear loud voice, helps them to understand your instructions easier!!
Smile
Smile when speaking to students, it always makes them feel comfortable
Respect
Show respect to Senior Instructors, to each other and to students
Card Collection
Make sure students have their cards when entering class, collect cards when asked to by Instructor.
It's time to get into class and put these skills to the test.
This page is used to support our discussions in class. Your real ability will improve when you show that you can really help out in class.
See you there!
